Locals to Help Redefine Crib Point Pool’s Identity Through Public Art

Crib Point Pool is set for a vibrant makeover as Mornington Peninsula Shire invites locals to help design a new mural marking the pool’s 50th anniversary. Residents can vote on themes and contribute ideas before artists are selected later this year.

Community invited to shape mural for pool’s 50th anniversary

Crib Point’s public pool is set for a colourful transformation — and locals are being asked to help decide what that looks like.

Mornington Peninsula Shire has launched a community consultation to guide the design of a new mural celebrating 50 years of the Crib Point Pool. Residents are being encouraged to nominate themes that capture the town’s spirit, from its maritime roots and natural environment to its tight-knit community identity.

A milestone moment for a community landmark

Crib Point Pool has been a cornerstone of local life since the 1970s — a place where generations have learned to swim, joined holiday programs, or simply escaped the heat on a summer afternoon. Now, Council says the mural project will not only refresh the facility’s look but also reconnect the community to a space that has long been part of the town’s story.

Mayor Anthony Marsh described the anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate both history and renewal. He said the project reflects the Shire’s commitment to supporting local artists while strengthening community pride.

“Crib Point Pool means something different to everyone — for some it’s a childhood memory, for others it’s where they meet friends each summer,” Cr Marsh said.

“This mural will capture that shared connection“.

Residents to vote on themes and final design

Locals can have their say by choosing up to three preferred themes or suggesting their own ideas through an online survey or written submission. Council will use the community’s feedback to guide a call-out for artists, who will then develop concept designs for public voting later in the year.

Warringine Ward Councillor Michael Stephens said the process will ensure the final artwork is genuinely community-led.

“The pool has always brought people together,” he said.

“It’s fitting that the next chapter of its story will be written by the people who use and love it most.”

How to get involved

Submissions are open until 5 December 2025. Locals can take part online, via email, or by collecting a hard-copy form from Council’s customer service centres in Hastings, Mornington or Rosebud.

Once a final mural design is chosen, installation will take place ahead of the next summer season — adding a vibrant new backdrop to one of the Peninsula’s most enduring community spaces.
