Frankston Hospital Helipad Reaches Structural Completion

The Frankston Hospital redevelopment has reached a key milestone with the structural completion of its rooftop helipad. The upgrade aims to improve emergency care and expand health services for the growing south-east Melbourne community.

The $1.1 billion redevelopment of Frankston Hospital has reached a major milestone with the structural completion of its rooftop helipad, marking a pivotal step in improving emergency healthcare services across Melbourne’s south-east.

Located atop the new 12-storey clinical services tower, the helipad will allow for rapid transfers of critically ill patients, providing direct access to the hospital’s emergency department and operating theatres. The helipad was pre-assembled on the ground using high-strength aluminium before being craned into place and features integrated lighting and firefighting systems, with commissioning now underway.

This is the largest ever health infrastructure project in Melbourne’s south-east – the helipad completion takes us one step closer to opening this important project for local families right across Frankston,”

— Melissa Horne, Minister for Health Infrastructure

Once complete, the upgraded Frankston Hospital will transform the delivery of public healthcare for locals, providing better access and more world-class healthcare, closer to home,”

— Mary-Anne Thomas, Minister for Health

The hospital upgrade will boost capacity to treat 35,000 more patients annually and deliver expanded emergency, mental health, oncology, and paediatric services. The project includes 130 new beds and 15 operating theatres, positioning the hospital to meet growing demand across the region.

Managed by the Victorian Health Building Authority, in partnership with Peninsula Health and the Exemplar Health consortium, the redevelopment remains on track for completion in 2025.

The helipad’s completion represents a vital leap forward in the transformation of Frankston Hospital—enhancing emergency response capabilities and healthcare access for communities across Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula.
