Two reckless motorcyclists caught on CCTV performing dangerous stunts on the Peninsula Link will face court after their bikes were impounded by Somerville Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 3 August, when PenLink traffic cameras detected two riders allegedly engaging in high-risk behaviour. Police allege the pair were swerving between vehicles, overtaking in emergency lanes, and performing wheelies (“monos”) while travelling at high speeds.
Despite attempts to obscure their number plates, both riders were swiftly intercepted. Their motorbikes were impounded on the spot, each incurring a $1,225 release fee.
“There was no riding off into the sunset for these two,” police said in statement.
Authorities say the riders’ behaviour posed a significant danger to all road users and highlighted ongoing concerns around motorcycle safety. So far this year, 39 of the 182 road fatalities in Victoria have involved motorbike riders.
“This type of behaviour demonstrates why,” the police statement read.
Both riders are expected to be charged and will appear in court at a future date.
