Homelessness on the Mornington Peninsula

Police confirming the man appeared to be homeless comes as homelessness is becoming more visible across parts of the Mornington Peninsula, including around transport hubs, shopping strips, foreshore areas and public reserves.

Local services have previously warned that housing stress, cost-of-living pressures and a lack of available rentals are pushing more people into insecure housing, including people who are working but cannot secure stable accommodation.

  1. I know many homelessness people in tents and many Community Services can’t do anything to help, no low cost housing available. It really pains me to see that our country doesn’t care about these people. Not all are drug or alcohol addicted!!!

  2. In the Lucky Country, wealthy Australia, should have a social security net to catch everyone. No one, not a single person should die, sleeping rough on a beach on a long hot Summer’s day.

How did we sink so low?

We pride ourselves on mateship, egalitarian society, a flavourful soup made up of every fella. Indigenous, convict, wealthy graziers, Brumie Boilermakers, Indian, Greek, Vietnamese, Italian, Sierra Leone, Kiwi, the list is lengthy and varied.

We have community stalwarts, caring for people and children in their time of need. CWA, CFA, SES, and thousands of volunteers give their all.

We setup post war housing for all, free universal healthcare and social security to protect the vulnerable….

    What went wrong?
Where did this marvellous country lose its moral compass?

Why have our bloated governments and old political parties failed our most vulnerable?

Why have both major parties given billions of taxpayer dollars to big business instead of building public housing, social security above the poverty line, mental health care covered by Medicare, available everywhere.

Ask yourself if our democracy is working properly?

  3. I Seen this Man hours Earlier, just So Exhausted and No Real Support.
This is the outcome for most people dealing with mental health issues, and not getting the Right Help!! Very Disappointing way to a new year..
