Hastings Man Charged After Police Probe Into Copper Thefts From Power Poles

A 26-year-old Hastings man has been charged following a Victoria Police investigation into alleged copper thefts from power poles in the Hastings area, with police seizing what they described as a large amount of copper wiring during a search.

A 26-year-old Hastings man has been charged following a Victoria Police investigation into alleged copper thefts from power poles in the Hastings area.

Police said members of the Mornington Peninsula Crime Investigation Unit executed a warrant in Hastings as part of an ongoing investigation.

Warrant executed in Villawood Drive

According to police, officers attended an address in Villawood Drive at about 8.45am on Friday, 30 January, where the 26-year-old Hastings man was arrested.

Police allege he was interviewed in relation to a number of copper thefts from power poles in the Hastings area, with the alleged offending dating back to August last year.

During a search of the property, police said they located what was described as a large amount of copper wiring.

Charges and court date

Victoria Police said the Hastings man has been charged with:

  • theft
  • dealing with property suspected to be the proceeds of crime
  • committing an indictable offence while on bail

He was bailed to appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on 21 April.

Investigation ongoing
