Mornington Peninsula – A man has had his licence suspended and car impounded after Rosebud Police allegedly caught him driving with a blood alcohol reading four times the legal limit late Sunday night.
According to a statement from Eyewatch – Mornington Peninsula Police Service, officers from the night shift crew pulled the vehicle over after observing it swerving on local roads.
The male driver returned a breath test reading of 0.20, well above the legal blood alcohol limit of 0.05. He was immediately issued a 12-month licence suspension and will be required to appear in court at a future date.
Police said the driver faces the prospect of further penalties including fines, a potential disqualification period, and mandatory interlock conditions if he seeks to regain his licence.
The man’s vehicle was impounded on the spot, with a release cost of $1,225.
“We’ll be out patrolling ensuring that our Mornington Peninsula roads are kept safe,” police stated.
“Please help us by making good decisions before getting behind the wheel.”
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of drink driving and comes as local police continue to ramp up enforcement efforts across the region.
