CRANBOURNE EAST — Two people have been remanded in custody after police uncovered a stash of drugs, cash and an imitation AK-47 rifle during a raid on a suburban home in Melbourne’s southeast.
The Springvale Divisional Response Unit executed a search warrant at a Mossman Drive property just before 7am on Monday, 28 July, where officers seized approximately 140 grams of methylamphetamine — with an estimated street value of $20,000 — along with a quantity of GHB, $12,000 in cash, and a replica assault rifle.
A 39-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, both from Cranbourne East, were arrested at the scene. They have been charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, trafficking 1,4-butanediol (commonly known as industrial GHB), and possessing proceeds of crime. The man faces an additional charge of being a prohibited person in possession of an imitation firearm.
Police say the pair were remanded following an appearance in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court yesterday and are expected to reappear in court today.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Ashley Penry from the Springvale Divisional Response Unit said the seizure was a win for community safety.
“Drug activity results in a plethora of additional crimes being committed in our community that affects so many more than just those in the drug trade,” he said.
“Getting caught trafficking drugs is no joke; you could spend up to 25 years behind bars if found guilty.”
Sgt Penry also warned that replica firearms pose a serious risk to public safety.
“Replica firearms may sound like toys but possessing them is also a very serious offence. They are often indistinguishable from the real thing, especially if used in a high-stress situation such as a burglary or robbery, where a victim or witness believes they are real.”
“By removing dangerous drugs and weapons from the street, we are making it safer for everyone.”
Investigations remain ongoing.
