New Year’s Eve across Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula is expected to be mild, with most activity centred on smaller gatherings and venue events rather than large public fireworks.
Weather forecast

A mild, partly cloudy evening is forecast for Wednesday 31 December, with daytime temperatures in the high teens and a noticeable cool change once the sun goes down, especially near the water. New Year’s Day is expected to reach the low 20s with mostly sunny conditions and a light sea breeze. A light jacket is recommended if you are planning to stay out late along the foreshore.
Fireworks and events
There are no council-run fireworks displays listed for Frankston City Council or Mornington Peninsula Shire. Both council areas will have alcohol bans and fireworks restrictions across foreshore reserves, supported by a visible emergency services and police presence.

The main organised Peninsula event with fireworks is Dromana 3 Drive-In, which is running a ticketed New Year’s Eve session with a midnight fireworks display alongside its movie program. Other Peninsula venues are promoting booked dinners, live music and smaller NYE sessions, including restaurants, wineries and breweries.
Viewing the Melbourne fireworks
Residents hoping to see the Melbourne CBD fireworks from a distance may use elevated locations such as Oliver’s Hill Lookout in Frankston or higher ground around Arthurs Seat for a potential skyline view, weather permitting. Any fireworks visible from these spots are expected to appear small on the horizon and will depend on cloud, haze and general visibility.
Safety, alcohol bans and reporting concerns
Foreshore visitors are being reminded that:
- Alcohol and private fireworks are prohibited in designated public and foreshore areas
- Extra patrols will be monitoring for unsafe behaviour, including the misuse of fireworks and antisocial conduct
If you see dangerous behaviour, illegal fireworks or something that looks suspicious:
- Call 000 in an emergency
- For non-urgent police assistance, call 131 444
- Report information anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online
Residents are encouraged to check Bureau of Meteorology forecasts and VicEmergency updates on the day for any changes to weather, fire danger ratings or local alerts before heading out.
New Year’s Eve locally is expected to feel more like a relaxed summer night by the bay than a single major public event, with most people opting for dinners, small gatherings and venue-based celebrations to welcome 2026.
STPL News wishes all readers a safe and happy new year.
