New netball court opens at Dromana Recreation Reserve

Dromana’s new competition-standard netball court brings senior netball to Dromana Recreation Reserve, uniting football and netball at one venue.

Dromana’s netball community has marked a major milestone, with a new competition-standard court officially opened at Dromana Recreation Reserve. The project means the Dromana Football Netball Club’s senior netball teams will now play at the same venue as the football teams for the first time.

Until now, senior netball matches were held across the road at Marna Reserve. With this new court, netball and football can now be played side by side, bringing all senior games together at the Recreation Reserve.

Junior netball teams will continue to use both facilities. They will train and play across the new court and the two existing courts at Marna Reserve, which were upgraded to competition standard in 2021.

The nearby Marna Reserve Pavilion has also recently undergone a $740,000 upgrade, adding new accessible ramps and decking, updated toilets — including an accessible toilet — and additional storage space.

The redevelopment of the Dromana Recreation Reserve was delivered through combined funding from the Mornington Peninsula Shire, which contributed $900,000, and the Victorian Government, which provided $200,000 under its Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Anthony Marsh said the upgrades would support active lifestyles and community connection.

“Upgrades to our recreation reserves help our sports clubs thrive and can inspire new members to sign up and get active too. I’m proud that Council continues to support the Dromana netball community,” Cr Marsh said.

Brokil Ward Councillor Patrick Binyon highlighted the benefit of bringing the club’s netball and football programs together.

The Dromana Netball Club and Dromana Football Netball Club have 17 teams that have been playing at Marna Reserve. This project will bring the senior netball and footy streams together, which will be fantastic for improving community connection,” Cr Binyon said.

This project has been in the pipeline for some time and the club is happy to see it become a reality. Go Tigers!”

With three competition-ready courts now available across Dromana and upgraded facilities to match, the local netball community is set to benefit from improved infrastructure for both training and match days.
